Details

This project established a smart composting hub to reduce campus food waste. Equipped with sensors to monitor temperature, moisture, and organic content, the system optimized decomposition to produce high-quality, nutrient-rich compost safe for agricultural use.

The system was connected to an online app where students could track food waste processed and compost produced in real time. Educational activities raised awareness on food waste reduction and organic fertilizer use.

In its first year, over 120 tons of food waste were diverted, 35 tons of compost produced, and applied to more than 25 acres of green areas. Over 800 students engaged. The initiative aligns with SDG 12 and SDG 13, and fulfills 2025 indicators 96, 210, and 111.
