The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action towards creating a viable balance among the environmental, social and economic dimensions. At its heart are the 17 SDGs , which result from the broad scope of “five Ps” (people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership). This will enable us to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Kasetsart University has adopted the principles of sustainable development, as evidenced by its vision: “Kasetsart University aims to provide ‘Knowledge of the Land’ to promote sustainable development in our country in order to be internationally recognized”, which is in accordance with the Kasetsart University Act (2015), under section 7.
In addition, RCE Sakon Nakorn, Kasetsart University, was acknowledged by the United Nations University (the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-ISA)) on 7 February 2019 as one of the Regional Centers of Expertise (RCE) worldwide. Kasetsart University aspires to achieve the goals of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014) by transferring its global objectives into the context of local communities (governance, collaboration, research and development, and transformative education). In addition to those initiatives, sustainability development programs have been implemented in accordance with the university’s missions, which are: education, research and innovation, academic management, and arts and culture preservation to local, regional, national, and international communities. This can be evidenced by the fact that Kasetsart University operates 17 Research Stations, 4 Field Stations, 4 Veterinary Hospitals, 4 Radio Stations, and 2 Laboratory Schools to serve communities throughout the nation.
The SDGs have been widely and thoroughly implemented in the activities, outreach programs, and training courses offered by the university though the SDG KU Way (KU CAFETERIA DURING THE OUTBREAK, KU LET’S SHARE, KU FAIR ONLINE, KU MILK WITH ITS NEW VALUE, KU BOOK TURN CRISIS INTO OPPORTUNITY, KU PUBLIC PARK, KU LIVING PLACE, PMKU AVENGERS and PMKU NEW NORMAL).
