Waste-to-Protein Insect Farming
Faculty of Agro-Industry , Bang Khen Campus
Details
This project applied circular economy principles to manage food waste by converting organic waste from canteens and dormitories into insect larvae (Black Soldier Fly), producing high-quality protein for fish and animal feed.
The demonstration facility included automated temperature and humidity controls, with students trained in husbandry, feed processing, and lab testing of protein quality.
In the first year, over 85 tons of food waste were diverted, 12 tons of protein produced, and greenhouse gas emissions cut by 45 tCO2e. The project supports SDG 12 and SDG 13, and fulfills 2023 indicators 34 and 96.
