Urban Farming for Campus Food Security
Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science , Kamphaeng Saen Campus
Details
To strengthen food security at campus level, rooftop and vacant-lot vegetable gardens were developed across faculties. These were integrated with academic courses and volunteer programs, enabling students to experience the full food chain from production to processing and sustainable consumption.
Smart drip irrigation and compost derived from canteen food waste were deployed, reducing production costs and lowering reliance on chemical fertilizers by more than 40%. Part of the produce was sold through the student cooperative, while another portion was donated to neighboring communities.
The project created a circular economy within the campus and instilled SDG 2 and SDG 11 principles in students and staff through hands-on practice.
