Sustainable Food Court: Zero-Waste Dining Model
Faculty of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences , Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus
Details
The central canteen was upgraded as a “Zero-Waste Dining” pilot. Single-use plastics were eliminated in favor of reusable containers with a centralized washing and convenient return kiosks. Organic waste was composted and used in the university’s agriculture plots.
Forty food vendors were trained in waste-minimizing recipes and efficient resource use. QR codes on menus displayed carbon footprints, raising consumer awareness.
By end-2023, plastic waste fell by 8.4 tons, 95% of organic waste was reused, and diner satisfaction rose 27%. The project aligns with SDG 12, SDG 3, and SDG 13, fulfilling 2023 indicators 34 and 96.
