Details

This project developed a solar-powered smart irrigation system for crop trial fields on campus. Soil moisture sensors automatically regulated irrigation to minimize water use and optimize crop growth.

The system transmitted data to an online platform accessible to researchers and students for use in agricultural engineering and renewable energy courses.

In its first year, water use dropped by 35% and solar power reduced electricity costs by over 40%. The system also provided a hands-on learning site for more than 150 students. The project supports SDG 6 and SDG 7, and fulfills 2023 indicators 34 and 96.
