Precision Irrigation with AI for Sustainable Farming
Faculty of Natural Resources and Agro-Industry , Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus
Details
This project developed an AI-powered irrigation system analyzing soil moisture, climate, and crop water demand to control drip irrigation in real time. Over 200 sensors were installed in field crops and vegetables, generating high-resolution spatial data.
The AI predicted water demand up to 7 days ahead using meteorological inputs and soil evapotranspiration models, reducing overuse and improving allocation. Students trained in both hardware operation and AI algorithm tuning.
Year-one outcomes: water use cut by 37%, yields up 22%, and per-acre production costs reduced 18%. The project supports SDG 2, SDG 12, and SDG 13, and fulfills 2024 indicators 34 and 96.
