Low-Carbon Rice Cultivation Pilot with Local Farmers
Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science , Kamphaeng Saen Campus
Details
This project partnered the Faculty of Agriculture with local farmers to test rice cultivation methods that cut methane emissions and optimize water use. Practices included Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), drought-tolerant varieties, and soil-based fertilizer management.
Across 120 acres, soil moisture probes and water-level sensors guided irrigation, while 80 households received hands-on training and students engaged in sustainable farming with communities.
Year-one results: average water use down 28%, methane emissions cut 35%, with yields maintained. The project aligns with SDG 2 and SDG 13, and fulfills 2023 indicators 34 and 96.
