Details

The Faculty of Fisheries launched an integrated aquaculture project to improve food production efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The system combined fish, shrimp, and aquatic plants in one cycle, where animal waste nourished plants, cutting reliance on feed and fertilizers.

Demonstration ponds on campus were equipped with water quality sensors to monitor conditions, while students trained in sustainable aquaculture management and sensor technologies.

In the first year, chemical fertilizer use dropped by 40%, water quality improved, aquatic survival rates exceeded 90%, and over 1.5 tons of aquatic plants were harvested. The initiative supports SDG 2, SDG 12, and SDG 14, and fulfills 2023 indicators 34 and 96.
