Green Library Energy Retrofit for Efficient Use
Faculty of Natural Resources and Agro-Industry , Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus
Details
The central university library had among the highest electricity use on campus. The project implemented deep retrofits: replacing lighting with high-efficiency LEDs, adding occupancy and daylight sensors, and upgrading HVAC to a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system for adaptive load control.
A 150 kW solar rooftop and a smart Energy Management System (EMS) were also installed, providing real-time data accessible to students and staff via an app to foster awareness and engagement. Comparative research measured pre- and post-retrofit energy costs and performance.
Results showed annual electricity use cut by 32% and greenhouse gas emissions reduced by 420 tons CO2e. The library became a teaching case for energy and environmental courses, aligning with SDG 7 and SDG 13.
