Biodiversity Garden for Education and Conservation
Faculty of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences , Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus
Details
To enhance education and conservation of local biodiversity, the university established a Biodiversity Garden featuring native, rare, and medicinal plant species. The garden was designed with interpretive signage, QR codes, and a 1.2 km nature trail for continuous learning access by students and the public.
Core activities included surveying and collecting over 300 plant species, building the trail with educational markers, and hosting a “Local Plant Day” engaging schools and community members. Students from forestry and biology faculties used the garden as a research and fieldwork site.
First-year outcomes included over 4,500 visitors, a 15% increase in campus green space, and restoration of underutilized land into valuable ecological habitat. The project aligns with SDG 15 and indicators 34 and 96.
